A man in his 30s has been arrested after two semi-automatic pistols, 39 rounds of ammunition, and a scrambler bike were seized in Co Kildare.

The seizure came as a result of gardaí from Kildare North Community Engagement, supported by detectives from Kildare North Crime, conducting proactive patrols on the Royal Canal Way in Maynooth on Wednesday evening, May 6th.

During the operation, gardaí intercepted a scrambler bike, resulting in the seizure of the pistols and ammunition.

The rider, the man in his 30s, was arrested at the scene.

He is currently detained at a garda station in Co Kildare under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

All seized firearms are undergoing technical and ballistic examination.

Investigations are ongoing, a garda statement said.
