A man is fighting for life after a serious overnight assault in Co Cork.

The man, who is aged in his 30s, was found lying injured at Liffey Park in Mayfield by gardaí on routine patrol in the area just after 3am on Tuesday.

He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where he is in a critical condition.

The area has been sealed off for a forensic examination, and Gardaí are appealing for any eyewitnesses with dash-cam footage to come forward.
