A man in his 30s is in serious condition after being hit by a car in Castlebar, Co Mayo, early on Sunday morning.

The collision occurred on the Moneen Road in the town at around 3.30am.

The man was brought to Mayo University Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

No other injuries were reported.

The road remains closed for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash cam, and were travelling in the area at the time of the collision have been asked to make their footage available to gardaí.

Anyone with any information has been asked to contact Castlebar Garda Station on (094) 903 8200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Investigations are ongoing, a garda statement said.
