Two men and a teenage boy arrested as part of an investigation into the fatal house fire in Co Offaly, in which a woman and child died, have been released without charge.

Four-year-old Tadgh Farrell and his great-aunt, Mary Holt, 60, were killed in the blaze at Castleview Park, Edenderry, on December 6th.

Gardaí arrested three men on Tuesday in relation to the investigation: two aged in their 20s and one in his 30s.

Later that evening, they said they had also arrested a teenage boy.

On Thursday morning, they said the fifth arrest – of a man aged in his 20s – occurred on Wednesday evening.

On Saturday evening, the teenage boy and two men, one aged in his 20s and another in his 30s, were released without charge.

A file is to be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A man aged in his 20s arrested in connection with the investigation remains in custody at a Garda station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

On Friday, Michael Dunne, aged 22 with an address in Co Kildare, appeared before Tullamore District Court charged with criminal damage by arson and endangerment in relation to the case.
