Feuding gangs in Ballymun in Dublin are holding locals to ransom, according to a local councillor.

Local People Before Profit councillor Conor Reddy said there is escalating fear in the community after a series of attacks.

It comes after an 11 year-old picked up and fired a gun earlier this week, which had been discarded in bushes.

Councillor Reddy said a gun was also found near a playground in Ballymun last week.

Reddy told Newstalk: "It's a very small minority, the community we're talking about involved in this feud... but the entire community in Ballymun have been held to ransom by it all.

"So there is an escalating fear and I think we really need to see a turning point in all of this. It's been running for months and we need to see a stop to it."
