A man in his 80s has died after being hit by a car on Earl Street, Co Longford, on Tuesday.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian at around 10am yesterday.

The pedestrian, the man in his 80s, was airlifted to Beaumont for treatment of serious injuries.

He was pronounced deceased on Tuesday evening.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area between 9.45am and 10:15am on Tuesday 28th April 2026 are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.
