Dubravko Ostojic was at Galway District Court on Sunday charged with the assault of his mother Milena (65), the Irish Daily Star reports.

The 33-year-old was denied bail after his mother suffered fatal wounds.

All parties should do an audit of their TDs’ record of provid­ing char­ac­ter ref­er­ences in crim­inal tri­als, Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín has said, after former TD Jim Glen­non was revealed as the per­son who gave a char­ac­ter ref­er­ence for a man con­victed of sexu­ally exploit­ing a boy.

Refer­ring to how the former Fianna Fáil TD gave a ref­er­ence to a dis­graced former gov­ern­ment adviser, Tóibín told the Irish Daily Mail: "Such court ref­er­ences should be registered by parties and put on pub­lic record."

After revealing himself as the TD who wrote a ref­er­ence for sex offender Daniel Ramamoorthy, his press statement said he would not be doing any interviews, according to The Herald.
