A person has died after a single-vehicle collision in Co Tyrone.

The incident occurred on Saturday night in Caledon.

PSNI Detective Inspector Dave Stewart, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Police received a report shortly after 11pm on Saturday of a collision involving a van in the Derrycourtney Road area.

“Officers, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, attended. However, sadly one person was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Derrycourtney Road, which was closed overnight, has since reopened.”

Sinn Féin MLA for the area Colm Gildernew said it was “devastating to hear this tragic news”.

“This will come as a terrible shock to his family, friends and the community and I want to extend my condolences to them at this tragic time,” he said.

“I want to commend the emergency services for their work at the scene and would urge anyone with information or footage to come forward to the police.”
