Temperatures are expected to hit 21 degrees in parts of the country today.

Blue skies and plenty of sunshine are being forecast until the middle of next week.

Parents are being urged to apply an SPF 50 on children and teenagers, with SPF 30 advised for adults.

Director of clinical affairs at the Irish Cancer Society Amy Nolan has this advice for anyone heading out in the sun.

Nolan told Newstalk: "Enjoy the sun sensibly by following the sun smart code even on a cool or cloudy day.

"How you do that is by slipping on clothing that covers your skin, make sure you slap on the sunscreen, SPF 30 for adults and 50 for children... and make sure you re-apply.

"A wide rimmed hat and try to stay out of the sun between the hours of 11am and 3pm because that is when the sun is at its peak."
