Girl airlifted to hospital after being hit by car in Co Westmeath

A female child was airlifted to Temple Street Children's Hospital for treatment of serious injuries after a collision in Clonmellon, Co Westmeath, on Wednesday.

Gardaí said the girl, who was a pedestrian, was involved in a collision with a car at Killallon Road shortly before 7:30pm on Wednesday.

Her condition remains critical.

The scene is preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

The road is currently closed with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area between 6:45pm and 7:45pm on Wednesday, April 22nd, are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.
