The man assaulted a member of staff and damaged property on the premises. A sum of cash was also stolen.
Man (30s) arrested after robberies of businesses in Co Westmeath

A man has been arrested after two businesses were robbed in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, on Sunday.

Gardaí were alerted to a robbery at a business premises on Castle Street at approximately 4.30 pm on Sunday afternoon.

During the course of the incident, a male suspect threatened staff with an implement. No items were taken.

A second report of robbery was received by gardaí a short time later at a business premises on Canal Court.

The man assaulted a member of staff and damaged property on the premises. A sum of cash was also stolen.

A man in his 30s was arrested a short distance away. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Co. Westmeath.

The stolen cash was recovered by gardaí.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
