A pedestrian is in a serious condition in hospital after she was hit by a vehicle in Ballina, Co Mayo.

The incident happened on Wednesday on O'Rahilly Street/Bury Street.

A woman in her 70s was taken to Mayo University Hospital with serious injuries.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballina Garda Station on (096) 20567, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
