A man in his 50s who was injured in an assault on St Patrick's Day in Limerick city has died.

The man was assaulted on Athlunkard Street on Tuesday, March 17th at around 9.40pm.

He died at University Hospital Limerick on Wednesday evening.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out at the hospital this Thursday.

Three men, aged in their 20s, have been charged in relation to this investigation and have previously appeared before the courts.

Investigations are ongoing, gardaí said.
