An illegal cock fighting event held in Monaghan is being investigated by gardaí.

A man in his 70s was arrested today in connection with the suspected animal welfare incident, which occurred on July 27th 2024 in Emyvale.

Gardaí said they received a report of a suspected illegal "cock fighting" event allegedly taking place at a private residence at 11am on the day in question and, with the help of the Department of Agriculture used a warrant to search the residence.

During the search, 15 dead roosters were found, with a further 70 roosters seized.

The investigation is ongoing at Monaghan Garda Station, and gardaí say they are continuing to liaise with the Department of Agriculture regarding the matter.
