Sports clothing and equipment giant Decathlon is to open a new store inside Tesco at Douglas Village Shopping Centre in Cork.

The Tesco Douglas store will undergo a multimillion-euro renovation before Decathlon opens, the supermarket retailer said.

The fitness store is set to open within Tesco this summer, making it Decathlon’s fourth store in Ireland.

The company said the opening "is a response to demand from local customers who have advocated for a physical home for Decathlon in the county".

The Douglas opening marks the 50th anniversary of the sports retailer, which opened its first store in France in 1976.
