A man has been left with serious injuries after he was assaulted in Naas, Co. Kildare, in the early hours of Sunday.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the incident, which occurred shortly after 2:45 am on North Main Street.

A man in his 30s was conveyed to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

A man in his 20s was arrested for public order offences and has since been released.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

Any persons who were in the vicinity of North Main Street, Naas, Co. Kildare, between 02:20 and 3:00 am on Sunda,y March 15th and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
