Man (20s) dies after single-vehicle collision in Co Westmeath

A man has died following a single-vehicle collision in Ballinafid, Co. Westmeath, on Sunday.

The collision occurred shortly after 0:50 am on the N4.

The man in his 20s was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The N4 between Mullingar and Rathowen, Co. Westmeath, is currently closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.

Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N4 near Ballinafid, Co. Westmeath, between 0:30am and 1:10am on Sunday 15th March 2026 are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
