A woman in her 50s remains in critical condition following a multi-vehicle crash in Co Mayo on Thursday.

The woman, who was driving one of the cars, was brought by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital. A man in his 60s who was a passenger in the car was also brought to the hospital as a precaution, gardaí said.

The incident happened shortly after 12:15pm and involved three cars, a van and an articulated truck on the N60 Castlebar to Balla road at Smuttanagh, Manulla.

No other injuries were reported at the time.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has since fully reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage from the N60 Castlebar to Balla road and Manulla area between 12pm and 1pm are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.
