A man in his 40s has been charged after an assault in Dublin city in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Gardaí responded to report of an incident at a domestic residence in Finglas, Dublin 11 shortly after 3am.

Two gardaí, a man and a woman, were physically and verbally assaulted while they attended the incident.

The man was arrested at the scene.

The two gardaí were brought to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown for treatment of non life-threateneing injuries.

Gardaí said that welfare supports have been made available to the gardaí by local management.

The man, who was subsequently charged, will appear at Blanchardstown District Court on Monday morning.

Investigations are ongoing.
