There has been a serious incident of criminal damage to trains in Co Westmeath.

Three train carriages were damaged with graffiti while parked in Athlone Train Station between 4pm and 6pm on Saturday morning.

Gardaí are asking anyone who may have seen anything unusual during this time in Athlone to contact them.

Any drivers or pedestrians travelling in the area near the Station during that time and who may have camera footage are asked to come forward.
