A woman has died following a single-vehicle collision in Eyrecourt, Co. Galway, on Saturday.

The collision occurred around 8:15 pm, when emergency services responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision at Rooaun.

The driver and sole occupant of the car, a woman in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

Her body was brought to the mortuary at Portiuncula Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The scene remains preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Anyone who was travelling in the area between 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) is asked to make that footage available to investigating gardaí.
