Snow and ice warning issued as flooding continues

Status yellow rain and snow warning has been issued for eight counties from midday tomorrow.

It will be in effect for 12 hours in Cavan, Donegal, Longford and Connacht, while Cork and Kerry will be subject to a status yellow rain warning at the same time.

Meanwhile, the entire country will fall under a yellow alert for low temperature and ice from 9pm tonight until 10am tomorrow, with Met Éireann forecasting temperatures of as low as -3 degrees.

Some roads leading to Dublin Airport are flooded and diversions are in place with heavy rain in Dublin.

Flooding is reported in a number of areas of north Dublin, with the capital and Wicklow subject to a status yellow warning for rain.

It is in effect until midday with Met Éireann warning of difficult travelling conditions.

Meanwhile, the entire country will be subject to a status yellow low temperature ice warning from 9pm tonight until 10am tomorrow morning.

Met Éireann's Donal Egan said there are different conditions being experienced across the country right now.

Egan told Newstalk: "Rain lingering in the south and east with that yellow rainfall warning in operation for Dublin and Wicklow until midday today... and some spot flooding is possible there.

"But it's better conditions across the north and west where it's mainly dry and will be quite sunny today. These drier conditions will gradually south eastwards through the day with just a few isolated showers following from the north and west."

DAA's Graeme McQueen says flight operations are running as normal despite the flooding near Dublin Airport.

"Roads around the airport are very tricky. A number of closures on the R108 road which people will know. Where the mound viewing area is that road is very heavy with water, big puddles on that road. My understanding, last I heard was that road was closed and impassible.

"The old airport road from Santry has severe flooding as well and cars can't get through there."

Blake Boland, spokesperson for Dublin Bus, said a number of their routes are affected by flooding.

"We are seeing some weather related delays and diversions in place this morning. We have about half a dozen routes; 16, 41, 41C, 33, 24, 27B are on diversions due to those weather conditions and localised flooding at the moment."
