RTÉ Radio's popularity has continued to grow as the latest listener figures show that the station broadcasts the top 10 programmes, as well as 18 of the top 20 programmes.

Figures from the Joint National Listenership Ratings (JNLR) show that RTÉ Radio 1 is attracting over 1.38 million listeners weekly, with four of its shows now passing the 400,000 listener mark for the first time.

Many of its programmes have recorded a significant year-on-year growth, with Brendan O'Connor's Saturday show growing by 71,000 listeners to 429,000, with his Sunday show at 418,000, an increase of 52,000.

Sunday Miscellany has increased by 79,000 to 338,000 listeners, while Liveline, with new presenter Kieran Cuddihy at the helm, now has 280,000, up by 10,000.

The Louise Duffy Show has 158,000 listeners in her new 3pm slot, while Drivetime with Katie Hannon and Colm Ó Mongáin has 218,000 listeners tuning in each evening.

Today with David McCullagh, who took over the slot from Claire Byrne following her defection to Newstalk, has 440,000 listeners. However, ratings for Byrne's new show will not be available until the next JNLR release.

Tara Campbell, Head of RTÉ Radio 1, said: “This is a strong book for Radio 1 cementing its position as the number one radio station in the country with an increased audience share of 20.3 per cent and more than 1.3 million listeners tuning in weekly."

RTÉ's lyric fm continues to attract more listeners, with 342,000 tuning in every week, and has increased its share to an all-time high of 3.1 per cent.

Away from RTÉ, Ian Dempsey’s Breakfast Show on Today FM attracts 224,000 listeners, an increase of 22,000, while Ray Foley continues to grow his afternoon audience, now at 159,000 listeners. Louise Cantillon also increased her listenership to 130,000.
