Woman (30s) arrested over €1.7 million heroin haul

Heroin worth almost €1.7 million has been seized by gardaí.

The haul came after gardaí from the Carlow Drugs Initiative stopped and searched a car in the town and discovered cannabis with a street value of more than €136,000 on Sunday.

In a follow-up search of a house in Carlow Town, 12 kilogrammes of suspected heroin was found alongside further cannabis and tablets.

The heroin was valued at €1.68 million.

A woman aged in her 30s was arrested under drug trafficking legislation.

A garda spokesperson said the suspected drugs have been submitted for forensic testing and investigations are ongoing.
