A man has been arrested after causing damage to cars with an axe in Co Wexford on Saturday.

The incident occurred at 4:15 pm, when a man caused damage to four parked cars at Forth Mountain car park.

Following a search, a man aged in his 50s was located at a residential property in Taghmon, and the Armed Support Unit deployed a less-than-lethal force option to effect an arrest.

He is currently being detained at a Garda station in the Eastern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
