A pedestrian has been critically injured in a crash in Co Louth.

The collision with a car happened on the N2 near Funshog, Collon, shortly after 3pm on Saturday.

The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, for treatment of serious injuries.

He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 20s, was uninjured.

A forensic examination of the scene has been carried out, and the road is expected to reopen shortly.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward
