Two men have been arrested by police probing a video which appears to show masked men standing next to a republican flag firing shots.

The 37-year-old and 47-year-old were arrested under the Terrorism Act by police following searches of premises in the Currynierin area of Derry on Wednesday.

Police said the action came as part of an ongoing investigation following a report, received on January 11th, of shots fired in the Tullymore Road area of the city.

“The searches and arrests are part of our investigation into a report of, and video showing, gunshots being fired in the Tullymore Road area,” a police spokesperson said.

“The video, which was circulated, shows a number of masked individuals, holding firearms, and standing next to an Óglaigh na hÉireann flag.

“One of the individuals fired a number of shots into the air.”

They added they are “keen to offer assurance that our investigation is ongoing”, and appealed to anyone with information to contact officers on 101, quoting reference 1489 of 11/01/26 or reference 191 of 15/01/26.
