A man in his 50s has died in a road accident in Co Kildare on Saturday.

The fatal collision involving a car and a pedestrian occurred around 5.25am in the Mylerstown area of Robertstown.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was transferred to hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.

No other injuries were reported.

The scene was preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, but has since reopened.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Anyone who was travelling in the area between 5am and 5.45am and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) has been asked to make that footage available to investigating gardaí.

Investigations are ongoing, gardaí said.
