A man is in hospital after an alleged assault in Co. Carlow on Wednesday.

The incident happened on the Stapelstown Road at midday.

A man in his 50s was brought to St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, to be treated for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

A man in his 40s was arrested in connection with the investigation.

The scene is currently being held for technical examination.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
