Gardaí seize €2.25m worth of cannabis in Westmeath growhouses

Gardaí have seized cannabis plants and herb worth an estimated €2.25 million from "sophisticated" growhouses in Co Westmeath.

Searches of two residential properties in Ballynagore, Co Westmeath, were carried out on New Year's Eve, resulting in the seizure of cannabis plants worth an estimated €500,000.

Gardaí also seized cannabis herb with a total estimated value of €1.75 million in both properties.

This operation was conducted by gardaí from the Westmeath Community Engagement Area, Divisional Drugs Unit, Mullingar Crime Unit, and the Regional Support Unit.

Both scenes were preserved for technical examination which has since been completed.

The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for further analysis.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
