Temperatures are set to drop to minus four overnight, as 2026 is set to start with a drop in temperatures.

Met Éireann says temperatures could drop to minus four degrees tonight, while some falls of sleet and snow are possible over the coming days.

Tuesday will be bright with sunny spells in the afternoon, with top temperatures of four to eight degrees.

Tuesday night will see frost and ice developing on untreated surfaces, while calm conditions will allow freezing fog to develop. Temperatures will be from one to minus four degrees.

Wednesday will see sunny spells tomorrow with fog clearing through the morning. Generally dry apart from the chance of a little drizzle, mainly near coasts.

The highest temperatures of three to seven degrees.

New Year's Eve night will be cloudy early in the night with some light rain sinking southwards. Clear spells and showers will follow from the north.

Lowest temperatures of minus two to plus three degrees with frost and icy stretches developing.

Thursday will see light rain in Munster, and south Leinster will slowly clear southwards through the day.

Elsewhere, there will be sunshine and well-scattered showers, most frequent for northern coastal areas. The highest temperatures will be from five to nine degrees.

Friday will see some showers of sleet and snow. The showers will continue into the night, with temperatures dropping as low as minus two.

At the weekend, the wintery showers are set to continue, with frost and ice through the night.
