An Irishman, believed to be connected to the disappearance of toddler Daniel Aruebose, has been arrested for deportation in Brazil.

Brazilian police said the man was in the country in an irregular immigration situation in their statement.

They also said he is suspected to be involved in the disappearance of a three-year-old child in Ireland.

Gardaí say they are aware of the arrest which relates only to immigration matters.

"This is a matter for the Brazilian authorities at this time," said the spokesperson.

Daniel Aruebose was last seen alive at his home in Donabate over four-and-a-half years ago when he was just three years old.

The investigation was updgraded to a homicide when his body was found buried in a field in north Dublin earlier this year.
