A man in his 60s has died following a traffic incident in Co Westmeath.

A two-car collision occurred shortly before 2.15pm on the Royal Canal Way at Cushinstown, Killucan on Friday, December 19th.

Following the collision, one of the drivers involved, a man in his 60s, became unwell and was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

None of the other occupants required treatment.

The scene has been examined, gardaí said, and the local Coroner has been notified.

A post-mortem examination will be arranged, the results of which will assist gardaí in determining the course of their investigation.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them. Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area at the time have been asked to make their footage available to investigating gardaí.
