A man in his 20s is in critical condition following a serious assault in Co Tipperary.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the assault, which occurred on Abbey Street and Barrack Street, Cahir, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident occurred shortly after 1:40am.

The injured man was treated by emergency services and conveyed to Tipperary University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He remains in critical condition.

The scene is being preserved for a technical examination.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of Abbey Street and Barrack Street, Cahir, between 1:15am and 2am on Saturday and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
