A woman, aged in her 60s, has been killed and a man injured in a two-car collision in Co Cork.

It happened shortly after 6pm this evening on the N25 Midleton to Youghal Road, near the Two Mile Inn.

The woman in her 60s was pronounced dead at the scene and the man - also in his 60s - has been taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries.

They were both travelling in the same car.

The road is currently closed with local diversions in place.

Gardaí say it's expected to remain closed overnight and into tomorrow morning and motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly.

An examination of the scene is being conducted by forensic collision investigators and any witnesses to the collision are asked to come forward.
