A woman in her 70s has died following a car crash in Co Limerick.

The collision involved a single car and occurred at approximately 4:10pm on Thursday on Abington Road, Murroe.

The woman - the driver of the car - was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem will take place.

No other injuries were reported.

The road is currently closed pending technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 3:50pm and 4:20pm, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
