A 60-year-old woman and a young boy have died in a house fire in Co Offaly.

A second woman, aged in her 50s, is receiving treatment for serious injuries at a hospital in the Midlands.

Gardaí attended the scene of a serious fire at a house in Co Offaly on Saturday night.

Emergency services arrived at the domestic residence in Edenderry at around 7.45pm.

A Garda spokesperson said the fire was extinguished by the local Fire Service.

Gardaí in Tullamore are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
