A viable pipe bomb has been discovered following a security alert in Dunmurry.

Police attended the scene in Areema Drive at approximately 12.40pm on Friday after a report of a suspicious object in the area.

A device was examined by ammunition technical officers. It was discovered to be a pipe bomb and was subsequently made safe.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Neighbouring properties were evacuated as our inquiries were conducted and the device was taken away for further examination.

“We appreciate that people were out of their homes for most of Friday as this public safety operation was conducted and we thank people for their patience during this time.

“Our inquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with any information which might assist us to contact 101, quoting reference number 690 of 28/11/25.
