Funeral of man (58) killed in Limerick motorcycle accident to take place on Thursday

The funeral details have been released for a motorcyclist and gifted mechanic who died in a motorcycle accident in County Limerick.

James Keogh (58) from Feenagh died tragically following a road traffic collision between a motorcycle and a car near Kilmeedy in County Limerick on Sunday, November 16th.

Gardaí said the fatal crash took place at around 4pm on the R519 at Ballykevin, near Kilmeedy. Mr Keogh, who was the motorcyclist, was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a tragic turn of events, his best friend, John Sheehan, was killed in a motorcycle accident last month. He was attending a memorial motorbike run for Mr Sheehan shortly before the accident occurred.

Locals said that James loved motorbikes and was a regular at biking events. He was also a gifted mechanic and worked at a truck garage in Charleville in County Cork.

Mr Keogh, who was originally from Croom but lived in Feenagh, was also a personal friend of Limerick County TD Richard O’Donoghue.

Paying tribute, he said: "To have one of the motorbike club go down, it hurts everyone," said Deputy O'Donoghue. "That to me is very sad having such a brilliant person have their life run short after being out... supporting his good friend John. He gave great advice.

"He used to do motorcycle racing himself in Mondello and then he went onto forestry (rallying) afterwards. He was a serious pilot."

He is survived by his wife Siobhan, father-in-law Seamus, mother-in-law Mary, daughter Rachel and extended family.

His remains will repose at O'Grady's Funeral Home, Ballingarry, Co Limerick, on Thursday evening (November 20th) from 5:30pm to 7pm.

Arriving at St. Mary's Church, Croom on Friday for 11:30am Requiem Mass. Burial afterwards in Reilig Mhuire Cemetery.

In a statement, gardaí said: “Road users with camera footage (including dashcam) from that section of road during the relevant period are also asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Newcastle West Garda Station on 069 20 650, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."

In a terrible weekend on Irish roads which saw six people lose their lives, Mr Keogh becomes the 158th fatality on Irish roads in 2025, which is nine more than the same period last year.
