An 18-year-old cyclist has been seriously injured following a collision with a car in Waterford City.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which occurred on the Cork Road (R680) in Waterford City shortly before 8pm on Sunday.

The cyclist was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford with serious injuries.

The motorist, an adult male, was assessed at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.

The road is currently closed to facilitate a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam footage from the area at the time, is asked to provide it to investigating gardaí.
