A woman in her 60s has died in a house fire in Co Offaly.

Gardaí and the fire service were called to the scene in Moneygall at around 10pm on Friday.

The blaze was brought under control, and the woman's body was discovered inside.

Gardaí said no one else was injured as a result of the fire.

The local coroner has been notified, and the woman's body has been removed to the mortuary at the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

The scene of the fire has been preserved to allow for a forensic examination.

A garda spokesperson told Newstalk that investigations are ongoing.
