Three women and two men have been arrested after gardaí seized €2.1 million worth of drugs in Dublin and Wicklow.

Personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau conducted search operations at residential addresses in the Dublin and Wicklow areas on Thursday.

During the course of the operation, which was conducted with the assistance of the Ballymun and Balbriggan Drug Units, 98kg of cannabis and 2kg of cocaine – with a combined estimated street value of €2.1 million – were seized.

The five people were arrested and are being detained at Garda stations in the Eastern region.

A man in his 40s is being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

Three women (one on her 40s and two in their 30s) and a man in his 30s are being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
