Fiosrú investigating fatal Cork road incident that occurred 'during a Garda interaction'

Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, is investigating a fatal road incident that occurred "during a Garda interaction" in Co Cork.

Fiosrú said it received a referral from An Garda Síochána on Tuesday, made by a Garda Superintendent.

The incident occurred at around 6pm on Tuesday at Ballyellis near Mallow. It is understood that a woman was killed in the collision.

In a statement, Fiosrú said: "The referral was made following a fatal road incident during a Garda interaction in the County Cork Division.

"One of Fiosrú’s on call team of investigators attended the scene.

"The team have and will continue to engage with the family concerned.

"As the matter is now under investigation, pursuant to section 208(1)(b) of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act, 2024, Fiosrú cannot make any further comment."
