Dublin is Europe's third most expensive capital for remote workers, new research shows.

Digital bank bunq analysed prices including rent, groceries, and transport for 27 EU capitals. It found that Dublin ranks third, after London and Amsterdam.

While co-working costs, utility and transport costs have dropped, high rent and rising food prices drive overall living costs in Dublin up.

The average monthly cost of public transport in Dublin decreased by 10 per cent between 2024 and 2025, going from €155 to €140. The average monthly cost of household utilities also fell from €337.38 to €297.54, one of the largest falls among European capitals.

The average Dublin coworking space is now €255.50 per month, a 24 per cent reduction from 2024 and the fourth largest reduction in Europe.

However, monthly food prices (per person) increased by 9 per cent to €304.77. Average rent is €1,889.29 a month.

Overall, the cost of living in Dublin was calculated to be €2,631.30 a month.

Meanwhile, emerging mid-tier cities such as Bucharest, Sofia and Budapest have become Europe’s most affordable destinations for remote workers, each offering total monthly living costs under €1,100.

bunq’s Chief Evangelist, Joe Wilson, said: “Living abroad should fit your life, not the other way around. Our research shows where your money goes, so expats can make choices that match their lifestyle - spend smarter, enjoy more, and focus on the experiences that matter.”
