Two roads in Ireland are some of the most haunted in Europe.

Mountpelier Hill in Co Dublin and Old Tramore Road in Co Waterford are places with a reputation for paranormal activity.

Research by car rental comparison site DiscoverCars.com sifted through paranormal experiences shared on online forums and social media.

The Old Tramore Road and the areas surrounding the N25 are often discussed online for paranormal activity. It is said the ghost of an old man haunts this road, with sightings of a man with a “bent” posture who steps out into the road, and then disappears.

The narrow approaches up Montpelier Hill imbue a general sense of unease and paranoia, with people saying that they felt as though something or someone was lurking out of sight.

Aleksandrs Buraks of DiscoverCars.com said: “If you find yourself driving down one of these spooky roads, make sure to drive slowly and carefully.

Knowing that you’re in an allegedly haunted place might be distracting, so it's important to pay attention to your surroundings and drive safely. Even more so if you are driving at night, when there’s reduced visibility.”

Other roads that made the shortlist are Staatsstrasse 2080 in Bavaria, Germany, where the “White Woman of Ebersberg Forest” has often been seen; and Stocksbridge Bypass in South Yorkshire, England, where sightings of ghostly children and mediaeval monks have been reported.
