Man charged over alleged assault on Catherine Connolly canvasser

A man who was arrested by gardaí investigating an alleged assault on two women during canvassing for Catherine Connolly in north Dublin is to appear in court.

The alleged assault occurred in North Strand Road on Friday as Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald joined the canvass.

A spokesperson said: “Gardai have charged the man, aged in his 30s, who was arrested in connection with an alleged assault on two females on North Strand Road, Dublin 1 on Friday, October 24 2025.”

He will appear in court on Monday.

Ms Connolly won the election to become Ireland’s next president, with the result announced on Saturday evening.
