Violence broke out at an asylum seekers' accommodation in Dublin 8 on Thursday evening.

Gardaí were called to Basin Lane shortly after 7pm.

In a video posted online, a group of young men can be seen putting cardboard and wood at the front door of what is understood to be asylum accommodation, and attempting to set it on fire.

Six wheelie bins and wood pallets were also set on fire on the laneway. People could be heard shouting “Get them out”.

Gardaí later arrived to protect the Basin Lane accommodation, which had been the scene of protests earlier this year.

This comes as protests continued outside the Citywest hotel on Thursday evening, although the protest was fairly peaceful compared with other nights. No arrests were made.

Investigations into the violence on Basin Lane are ongoing.
