Man (30s) charged in connection with armed robbery of a pharmacy in Co Offaly

A man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a pharmacy in Tullamore, Co Offaly, on Wednesday.

Shortly after 4pm, gardaí responded to reports of a robbery at a pharmacy in Tullamore after a masked man armed with an apparent firearm had entered the premises and threatened staff.

The man left the scene with a sum of cash and medical products.

A man in his 30s was apprehended and arrested a short time later by a member of an Garda Síochána who was on beat patrol in the area.

He was brought to Tullamore Garda Station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice act, 1984.

All of the property taken and replica firearm were recovered.

The man has since been charged in connection with the investigation and is due to appear before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court on Thursday.
