Gardaí are appealing for information following the discovery of the body of a woman in Lohercannon, Co Kerry.

The body of an unidentified woman was found in the water shortly before 1 pm on the Canal walkway between Tralee and Blennerville.

The Coroner has been notified, and the body was removed from the scene and taken to University Hospital Kerry pending formal identification.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information regarding this incident or the identity of the female to come forward.

The woman is believed to have been in her 50s or 60s, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and was wearing a red top, black leggings and white runners.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tralee Garda Station on 066 710 2300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Gardaí say enquiries are ongoing.
