Teenager killed in suspected stabbing named by Ukrainian Embassy

The victim of a suspected stabbing in north Dublin on Wednesday has been named by the Ukrainian Embassy as Vadym Davydenko.

In a post on Facebook, they said he was a Ukrainian citizen, that they are supporting his family and are preparing to repatriate his body to Ukraine.

The embassy expressed its condolences to the boy’s loved ones and said they were maintaining close contact with An Garda Siochana.

The teenager died and two others were taken to hospital following an incident at Tusla emergency accommodation in the Grattan Wood area of Donaghmede.

Emergency services were called shortly after 11am and gardaí said they discovered a “seriously injured male juvenile” who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed on Wednesday evening to Dublin City Mortuary.

Gardai said emergency personnel assisted several juveniles and adults at the scene and a male teenager and a woman were taken to hospital with “non-life threatening injuries”.

Both Vadym Davydenko and the injured teenager are understood to be international protection applicants.

Gardai have said they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident and are “following a definite line of inquiry.”

Tusla, which is the state’s child and family agency, said the incident occurred at a unit which provides 24-hour care to four separated young people seeking international protection.

In a statement, it said: “The incident involved two young people, during which a fatal injury was sustained.

“An Garda Siochana are now conducting a full investigation, and we are co-operating fully with their inquiries.

“Our immediate priority is the safety and wellbeing of the other young people and staff at this unit.

“We are providing additional supports to everyone directly affected and making efforts to contact the families of the young people who were residing there.”
